A Brand-New Day by the Waterfront – Discovering Fushimi from the Renewed Fushimi Minato Bridge

The barrier-free renovation work on Fushimi Minato Bridge, located just steps from Chushojima Station on the Keihan Line, was completed in May 2026.

Many local residents had been curious to see how the bridge would change after the long construction period.

This time, I visited the venue of the Spring Fushimi Go-Yon-Ichi Festival on May 31 and took a walk across the newly renovated Fushimi Minato Bridge.

What's New? A Gentle Slope Connecting the Town and the Waterfront

Until recently, the only way down toward Fushimi Port Park was by stairs, making access difficult for people using wheelchairs, strollers, or anyone who preferred a gentler route.

The newly installed ramp now provides a smooth connection between the bridge and the riverside embankment.

As you walk down, the view opens up. The gentle flow of the river and the refreshing breeze naturally slow your pace, inviting you to enjoy the scenery.

There is something both familiar and refreshing about the experience.

It feels like the beginning of a brand-new day.

What was once simply a route to pass through has become a place where you want to linger, stroll, and take in the surroundings.

Visitors could also see traditional Japanese riverboats showcased during the event.

Fushimi Minato Oasis: Enjoying Time by the Water

At the end of the new ramp lies the Minato Oasis Fushimi area.

This waterfront district reflects the history of Fushimi Port, once a thriving center of transportation and commerce. Today, visitors can enjoy the sight of the famous Jikkokubune sightseeing boats cruising through the canal, relax in the spacious Fushimi Port Park, and spend time by the water at a leisurely pace.

Thanks to the barrier-free improvements, the route from Chushojima Station to the waterfront has become much more accessible and welcoming.

This is one of the best seasons to enjoy a riverside walk.
