Fushimi new specialty sweets

Fushimi is the birthplace of agar, an ingredient used in Japanese sweets. Agar was invented in the early Edo period and spread throughout Japan as a new food ingredient in the late 17th century.
"Fushimi Bakufu," an original product of Shichijo Kanshundo Fushimi Ote-suji Branch, is a Japanese sweet made with agar.
It is a type of Japanese sweet called a monaka, consisting of bean paste filled with cubes of agar. It is very striking, with the seals of historical figures on it. It's the perfect souvenir from Fushimi.

Baumkuchen born from an innovative collaboration

Founded in the mid-Muromachi period, Souhonke Surugaya Zenemon is a long-established shop that has had a major influence on the development of Japanese sweets.
Today, in addition to a variety of Japanese sweets, they also make Western sweets such as puddings, but their unique baumkuchen is made by baking a batter made with eggs and yogurt and coating the surface with yokan syrup. The unique texture of the yokan creates a contrast with the soft batter. There are many baumkuchen, but there is no other style like this.
